Botanica (2023)

This functional vase is a modern homage to the timeless beauty of Baroque flower arrangements, reinterpreted through an expansive use of materials that highlight both organic and man-made components. The design integrates a variety of materials, each chosen for its unique texture and form, reflecting a deep exploration into the interaction between nature and crafted elements.

The real flowers, mushrooms, and ginger within the vase are encased in resins and acrylic, preserving their natural beauty while adding a striking contrast to the surrounding materials. The inclusion of hand-grown crystals introduces an element of organic structure, while ceramics, glass frit, thermoplastic, and recycled materials contribute to the sculptural nature of the piece. This combination not only emphasizes my passion for material experimentation but also underscores my commitment to sustainability. Steel, sand, paint, polyurethane, and varnishes further enrich the piece, providing layers of texture and color that deepen the viewer’s experience.

Created in response to a collaborative project with Gallery Tableau Copenhagen and a perfumer, this work was inspired by a custom-designed scent, which guided my material choices and design process. The vase is a tangible reflection of this olfactory experience, blending the sensory world of scent with the tactile nature of materials, creating a dialogue between the natural and the artificial.

Exhibited in ‘Dripping Rhubarb’, the show highlighted how scent and materiality intersect in art, allowing for a sensory exploration that transcends the visual.
