Crater Concave (2021)

Crater Concave is a striking fusion of mathematical geometry and the organic shapes of natural geology, specifically inspired by the stalactite formations found in cave systems. The piece transcends traditional furniture design by exploring the intersection of the synthetic and organic, resulting in a contemplative object that invites the user to become both a participant and a part of the sculptural formation.

This chair’s design evokes the idea of a “throned crater,” inviting the user to occupy a space within the form, as if they are being impacted by the natural forces that shaped it. It speaks to the union of nature and craftsmanship, a signature theme in my work. The use of materials such as metal, eco-binder, polyurethane, and sand highlights my ongoing exploration of material combinations and innovative techniques, creating a tactile and visually dynamic object. The varnishes and paints further accentuate the depths and textures of the piece, while underscoring my passion for material research and materiality-driven design.

This chair embodies my dedication to investigating how natural phenomena and geometric precision can coexist in functional design. The merging of these influences and materials serves as an ongoing study of texture, form, and structure, showcasing my approach to creating pieces that are both artistic and purposeful.
