Mining Mars (2020)

This table is an exploration of material fusion, where diverse materials come together to create striking contrasts in color and texture, each offering endless possibilities. The concept behind this piece draws on speculative design—envisioning a futuristic artifact uncovered by extraterrestrial archaeologists, tasked with reconstructing the remnants of our world. The table is not only a functional object but a study of materiality, where each material choice is deliberate and based on its unique properties and potential for creating novel sensory experiences.

The materials selected—steel, resin, ceramic, recycled materials, concrete, sand, bioglue, and paints—were chosen with careful consideration of their aesthetic contrasts, sustainability, and structural potential. Each material plays a role in enhancing the narrative of the piece, grounding it in both contemporary innovation and a speculative future where material science and human craftsmanship intersect.

This piece reflects my ongoing research into the relationship between materials and form, and how the right combination of materials can evoke new meanings and interpretations. The project is not just about creating an object, but about understanding the potential of materials to communicate and shape the world around us, offering a glimpse into how future design might evolve through the thoughtful integration of diverse materials.
